“Growth” is an integral part of our life, and we all
like to experience the growth in all aspects of our lives. But,
unfortunately, not all of us get to experience this growth in an
identical fashion as we all are created with many different and limited
human conditions, that limit or slow down our abilities to develop,
whether we like it or not. One such human condition is autism spectrum
disorder (ASD) related to a form of speech and communication disorder.
This autism spectrum disorder appears to affect about 60 children/10,000
under the age of 8 years and is shown before the age of three in one or
more of the following domains: (1) social interaction; (2)
communication; and (3) restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns
of behavior, interests, and activities.
Fortunately, the help is out there as speech and language therapy
can help a great deal to treat these communication and speech disorders
by providing guidelines for best practice in screening, investigation,
early diagnosis and intervention in pre-school &
primary-school-aged children as well as adults. So, whether you have a
child with autism spectrum disorder, or a child who is mispronouncing
certain words, having difficulty following directions and understanding
what is said to them, using fewer words or shorter sentences that other
children of their age, showing signs of frustration and stuttering,
having difficulty learning to read and spell, difficulty learning and
understanding social skills, you can always consult professionals at a speech therapy pathology nearby you to offer your children the growth and development that they deserve.
